Biking Across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito

Day 2 – Working out on Vacation?

We purchased a 3-day San Francisco Go Pass that basically gives you access to dozens of attractions for one low price.  It was easy and convenient to not have to carry tons of cash everywhere we went.  Plus it was such a great deal…it saved us money!

Our first activity on the Go Card was a complete adventure, a fantastic start to our trip.  We rented bikes and a burley from Bay City Bikes at Fisherman’s Wharf.  From there, we rode along the scenic route across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and down to the Bay Area Discovery Museum.  That ride alone was about 7 miles, with hills in between.  We had to walk our bikes uphill several times.  For someone (me) who hasn’t been on a bike since I learned how to, it was a looooong ride, but I survived and had tons of fun.

Michael studied the map of our biking journey

Happy to be here!

IMG_2182We made it…on the bridge!  That’s SF in the distance, and the Bay Bridge.  We still had 2 more miles to get to the museum.

IMG_2188 At first we thought riding across the bridge wasn’t safe, but as you can see bikers and pedestrians are totally guarded from the traffic.  The scariest part was sharing the sidewalk with crazy pedestrians!
