Lil Slugger Turns One!

Michael turned one on April 2nd, but we celebrated his first birthday the following week because Easter weekend was going to be too hectic. We had two Easter parties to go to already so a third was going to be a little bit much!

We had a baseball themed party at Craig Park in Fullerton. It was a pretty chilly day, but as soon as the sun peeked out, it turned out to be a great day at the park. All of Michael's friends and family showed up. They played at the playground, watched the ducks, threw around plastic balls and rode a wagon up and down the park. We played a few games, one of which was "Pin the baseball in the mitt". The winner of the game was Denise, and she nailed it perfectly... blindfolded, I must add! It was amazing. We had Tacos Coco come and cater the event, and everything was delicious. We ordered a marble cake with fresh strawberries and bavarian cream from Beverly's Best in Brea, and that turned out great and yummy! Thanks lola and lola for bringing pancit and turon (deep fried bananas).

Thank you to those who were able to make it and for all the presents! We can't wait to play with all the summer water toys!

For his 12 month update, the doctor said he's growing very proportionately. His height and weight have dropped down to the 50th percentile, and that's okay because he's half filipino. =) If you recall, Michael was born at the 93rd percentile, weighing over 9lbs! Anyway, here are his current stats:

Height: 29-3/4 inches
Weight: 21 lbs 4 oz

Thank-you for all the cool toys and clothes!

12 month update

Michael is such a friendly and social kid. He's not shy and loves to be around a lot of people...so that's why we're almost always out and about. Just me and my little man going grocery shopping, getting BR on Dollar Scoop Tuesdays!, running errands, hanging out at Disneyland, going to parks. You name it...we're there! I am running out of ideas on places to go. Anyone have suggestions?

At 12 months, Michael can now understand what you tell/ask him so well. We try to get him to speak, but he uses hand gestures more than his tongue. =) Here's a developmental update on Michael:
  • He knows what room to go to when you say "Let's brush our teeth" or "It's bathtime". He also knows which room is his, although he doesn't sleep in it (yet).
  • When you tell him that it's sleepy time, he will get his favorite blanket and lie down with it.
  • When you ask him what Mr. Fan says, he will stick out his index finger and shake it "no-no" because our fan spins and shakes its head like he's saying no. Lol.
  • He loves to dance! Sing or play any kind of music, you will most likely see him shaking his booty or putting his arms up in the air. Go Michael!
  • He can point to his belly, belly button, toes, feet and YOUR nose. He covers his ears when you say "ear muffs". He knows where his tongue is too!
  • When you say we're going outside, he'll run to the front closet to grab his shoes. (no shoes allowed in our house. =X)
  • He loves to help Jason and me around the house. He helps me sweep and wipe down the floors. He's always interested in what Jason does - poking holes and running wires through the walls, fixing doors, re-screening screen doors, hanging tvs. Basically he tries to get his hands dirty in any home improvement project and mimic what you do.
  • He loves ice cream! He behaves and sits in a big boy chair very well if you're feeding him ice cream. =)

My First Trader Joes Shopping Trip

Michael and I were at Home Goods shopping for lamps and other home accessories, but he was getting a little antsy in the shopping cart. All he wanted to do was climb out and touch everything. Who knows what he would've knocked over so we turned around and decided to play at Trader Joes next door. Did you know that they have these mini kid shopping carts?? Since Michael can walk now, I decided to let him do the pushing while I did the shopping...at least, that was the plan. Every time I turned around to make sure he was following me with that cart, I saw the cart, abandoned in the middle of the aisle, and his busy little hands pulling everything off the shelves! All the other shoppers kept laughing as I chased him and picked up all that he had pulled out. Looks like the next time we try to do this, Daddy will have to be there to watch Michael as I do the shopping.

The beginning - Lalala...behaving and pushing the cart

What do we have here? Popcorn?! And a little more popcorn!

Aaah! There's just too much cool stuff! A ceiling fan too!

I think we need some briquettes

Ooh this looks like a shiny toilet paper roll!

Angels - Game 4 of the Season 4/8/10

We were craving some chicken wings so we decided to head to hOOters for dinner. Michael sure had a great time! He kept squeezing both of his hands in a fist simultaneously like the kid in Meet the Fockers. I don't think his was a sign for "Gimme some milk" though.

Right before heading to Hooters, we spontaneously thought of going to the Angels game, afterall it was next door. We got tickets last minute only for $2.75 each! Of course they weren't the greatest seats, but Jason likes standing behind left field so it didn't matter. It was a good idea too because Michael was able to walk around instead of sitting in the boring seats. There was no world record of wearing the most snuggies today, but we got a free giveaway -- a Mike Scioscia Bust.

Easter Part 2 & My First Wagon

To start off Easter Sunday, we went to Easter Mass at San Antonio Catholic Church. The church parking lot was so packed that we parked a few blocks away! Then we headed off to Grandpa and Nana's house for brunch. Michael enjoyed having quiche and honeydew melons for the first time. I love that he can eat almost anything! We include more protein in his diet, and he's been sleeping 7-8 hours straight at night. Could that have been the cure to his short sleeping habits? Let's hope so. We're keeping our fingers crossed. Ok back to our Easter post.

Since Michael's actual birthday was April 2nd, Nana decided to give Michael his present. It was a huge two seater wagon with 4 cup holders! Talk about fancy. His stroller is only equipped with one cup holder, and this wagon has four! How cool is that? After Daddy assembled it, Ethan and Michael took it for a spin around the house. Oh and big cousin Nicholas also rode in it! The boys had so much fun. Thanks Grandpa and Nana for such an awesome gift.

Daddy looked like he needed help so Michael lent him a hand & hammer. =)

Easter Part 1

We had a small Easter Celebration in Chino Hills on Saturday. There was an egg hunt for the kids - Aidan, Daryl, Lauryn and Michael. Michael found an egg with a big prize, $50!! Go Michael! (Thanks to Lolo) I'm glad we practiced hunting eggs and putting them in the Easter basket during the week so when it came to game time, Michael was ready. He listens and understands directions really well now. So if you ask him to find an egg and put it in the Easter basket, he'll actually do it. He also shakes the egg to see if there's something inside. If it makes a sound, he'll open it. Way to go Michael!

Can't Let Go of My Legos

Michael and I play with the big legos for hours everyday. If he's not helping me build something, he's busy destroying my creations, and laughing while doing it. He's really good at figuring out how the pieces fit together, but he hasn't quite realized that a bigger base will support a taller construction. =)
