Fun with Lolo and Lola

Michael likes to visit Lolo and Lola almost every Wednesday.    They don’t have many toys to play with at their house, but it’s never a dull moment for Michael when he visits.  This time we hung out at Round 1, scored a bunch of tickets again, and came home with a few cool prizes.

Then we were off to the driving range/putting green at Pacific Palms where Michael got really possessive over the green.  He didn’t like the older men playing on his turf.  He was in such a bad mood, he swung his club at a man’s vehicle, and of course, the owner happened to be standing right behind us.  Thank goodness there wasn’t a dent or anything…but whew! That was a close one.

Knotts is Berry Fun

Michael and I spent the early afternoon visiting his favorite character, Snoopy!  It’s so cool that he loves Snoopy because Snoopy was my favorite growing up too.  I still have that very first snoopy I received 26 years ago, except it’s missing its nose.  He’s also very frail because he lost all hisstuffing from all the times being in the washer.  I still love him to pieces though!

IMG_1290 Michael picked this truck because his favorite color is red and it had the number 2 since he’s now 2!  Oh, and he drove the truck with one hand on the wheel and one on the door because that’s how his daddy likes to drive.

IMG_1294He wanted to go on it again…and again.

IMG_1297 And then finally, I got him to go on a different ride – the balloon ride.  Today the line wasn’t long, but the employee decided to make small talk with every single rider before take-off.  She even asked Michael a few questions, and uhh, he’s 2!?

IMG_1301We finished the day off watching the Charlie Brown baseball show and meeting Snoopy.

Easter

We haven’t figured out how to do Easter with two sides of the family who celebrate at the same times.  This year we went with who came up with plans first.  Hopefully we can spend time with both sides next year.  We had a great dinner, and an indoor egg hunt because we got rained on.

IMG_1185 Michael loves chicks.  He tried hugging this one, and sat on one at Irvine Park.

IMG_1189 See, he gave this chick a kiss. lol

IMG_1190Egg Hunt:  Ready, Set, GO!

IMG_1198  I’ll go this way. You go that way.

Easter at Home

We woke up bright and early to attend Easter mass.  I love the priest at San Antonio Catholic Church because his homilies are always so entertaining.  He always starts off with jokes that brings tears to my eyes.  Who said church was boring?  Anyway, after mass, we rushed home, and had a quick egg hunt for Michael while it was drizzling.  He was sooo excited!  He knew that daddy hid the eggs, so there is no Easter bunny in this household.  What is the connection between the bunny and Easter anyway?  Somebunny fill me in. LOL.

IMG_1145 He was in awe when he found his Easter basket.  He got a Thomas the Train book with music, a new Mobigo game, an inflatable ball, microphone, crayons, snacks, and eggs filled with little knick-knacks.  Oh and money!

IMG_1138He collected $12.67 from the eggs.

Then we were off to Grandpa and Nana’s house for food and more Easter fun.

Easter Egg Coloring

It was Michael’s and my first time coloring Easter Eggs this year.  What?!  Mine too??  Yes, I’ve never colored eggs in my life, and the only explanation could be that my family didn’t think that it would be fun to waste eggs for a coloring project.  Can you eat the eggs after they’re dipped in dye?  Would you eat eggs that have been handled by Michael??  I’m not a fan of hard-boiled eggs so I wouldn’t eat them after they’ve been played with anyway. =)

IMG_1103We made it an outdoor project because you know Michael.  They also make those cool colored egg cups, but I realized that after the fact, and so we decided regular paper cups would do.

IMG_1107  The egg stick thingy was not a good tool.  The egg falls off and splashes colored water everywhere!

IMG_1112 Forget the scooper, Michael used his hands!  Look how green the egg is.. I mean, look how green his hands are!

IMG_1114 We tried to do some cool designs: notice goofy’s tie dye egg?

Jason turns 34!

April is always a busy month with birthdays and Easter, and since Jason’s birthday landed in the middle of the week, we decided to do something low-key.  We had a relaxing dinner (meaning no Michael) at Kabuki with my buy one combo get one combo free coupon.  Score!  For you sushi lovers, I highly recommend the Hamachi Sake Box Sushi Roll which has layers of salmon, crab, rice and topped with yellowtail.  It is simply delicious…and yes, we are fans of raw fish.

After dinner, we enjoyed some coffee creme brulee birthday cake from a bakery in Irvine.  There’s just something special about Asian cakes…they’re very delightful, spongey and not too sweet.  You can have slice after slice and not feel like you’re eating something bad.

Happy birthday Jason!  We hope we made you feel as special as you make us feel everyday.  Love you!

2 Year Well-baby Checkup

Michael finally had his 2 year well baby visit today; the previous checkup was cancelled by his doctor and so we had to reschedule at such a late date.  The doctor had nothing but wonderful things to say about Michael.  He’s very proportionate in weight, height and head circumference, all around the 50th percentile.  He weighed in at 27lbs 7oz, and is 34-1/4” tall.  The nurse did some accurate measurements this time around.  She had him strip down to a diaper and sit on the baby scale.  And to measure his height, she had him lay down on the paper, just like they do for squiggly babies!  The doctor also mentioned that Michael was one of the easiest 2 year olds she’s ever did a full exam on.  He was such a good listener, and followed her instructions very well.  We play pretend doctor at home where we listen to his heartbeat, check his ears, eyes and mouth, and tap his knees…so maybe he thought she was playing with him too!  Last night, while we had a mock check-up, we had a little conversation:

Me: Michael, what do you get when you’re a good patient?

Michael: A band-aid!

Me: A band-aid? Oh for your shots. What else?

Michael: Stickers!

Me: What else?

Michael: A book. [Dr. Rawal always gives him a book at every visit.  He remembers!!]

After his fantastic exam, the doctor ordered a blood draw to check for lead and other tests.  We were more nervous than he was because the last time he had his blood drawn, it took several tries from several nurses for what seemed like hours.  Michael was so miserable.  This time, the technician found his vein in one shot.  Michael didn’t shed one tear.  All he wanted was a prize from the treasure chest!  He’s so brave.  I can’t believe he’s growing up so fast…

Easter Eggstravaganza

We had some pre-Easter fun at Irvine Park’s Eggstravaganza with Kathy and Ethan.  The boys went on a free rock hunt before the egg hunt, and actually, I think they had more fun filling up their baskets with rocks… I’ve noticed that the free stuff is usually more fun.  Works for me!  Michael opened all his eggs and found mostly hard candy and stickers.  Peppermint candies and jolly ranchers aren’t the most appropriate candies for 2-4 year olds.  Oh well, he didn’t notice that they ended up in the trash because there were so many activities.  They jumped around in the bounce house, visited the Easter Bunny, and rode the train.  We finished off the afternoon feeding the ducks and peacocks until it was time for a nap.

IMG_0916 Is this duck meant to be sat on? Michael thought so.

IMG_0923 It was time to get ready for the egg hunt, but the boys decided to start a “rock hunt”.

IMG_0928At the start of the hunt, all the kids ran over to the eggs, whereas Michael got distracted by this red flower… and so did this boy.

IMG_0934Once Michael got hunting, he was on a roll.  Each kid was limited to 8 eggs, but he found 12 so I secretly opened the eggs and threw back the ones with not so good goodies. ;)

IMG_0944  Yes, he’s opening a Jolly Rancher.  Who gives hard candies to 2 year olds??  Seriously!

IMG_1022  Michael rarely poses next to characters, but he loved the Easter Bunny for some reason

IMG_1035After all the Easter fun, the boys pitched some bread to the ducks.  These boys can throw!

Playdate with Abigail

My good friend Annie had a new baby 8 weeks ago, and she happened to be on spring break this week, so Michael and I paid her a visit.  I forgot that the normal mom would go back to work 6 weeks after giving birth.  6 weeks is too soon to leave your newly born baby…and that’s probably why I decided to quit and stay home.  Wait, it’s been 2 years, and I’m still home!  Anyway, she has a daughter named Abigail who’s about Michael’s age, and the two entertained each other during our visit.  Albert is so calm.  He wakes up to eat and goes back to sleep.  How easy is that!?  I don’t remember Michael being like that as a baby.

IMG_0894 Andy pulled them around in the wagon, and took them to the park

IMG_0905

IMG_0908It was getting a little warm in the sun…  HAT TIME!

Michael was so nice to Abigail.  He shared her toys with her and was very sweet.  Looks like he may need a permanent playmate sometime soon…

A Visit to Irvine Park

Irvine Park has an Easter Eggstravaganza going on for the month of April so we decided to check it out with Nicole, Adelyn and Logan.  Logan was awake the entire time we were there!  We took a few pictures at the free picture stands, and rode the train.  We’re saving our eggstravaganza experience for Ethan when we go again on Friday…stay tuned!

IMG_0840A Basket of two Hatchlings and an arm.  We should’ve inserted Logan in the third cutout.

IMG_0842Love holding hands pictures!  They made sure they were safe crossing the train tracks.

IMG_0844 The Inverted Oreo

IMG_0846This cutie is about to hatch!!

IMG_0872We ate our sandwiches by the lake where the ducks were hanging out.  Michael decided to throw the rest of his into the lake, but he said “Uh Oh! Bread!!”

IMG_0874 Guess he wasn’t done eating!  He cried for the rest of his sandwich, and cried more when he saw a duck eat it.  Poor guy…

IMG_0878 He remembered where the playground was in relation to the lake.  It wasn’t even visible to where we were standing!

Can’t wait for more park fun where we’ll go egg hunting, take pictures with the Easter Bunny (maybe?), jump in the bounce house, and more!!!
