2 Year Well-baby Checkup

Michael finally had his 2 year well baby visit today; the previous checkup was cancelled by his doctor and so we had to reschedule at such a late date.  The doctor had nothing but wonderful things to say about Michael.  He’s very proportionate in weight, height and head circumference, all around the 50th percentile.  He weighed in at 27lbs 7oz, and is 34-1/4” tall.  The nurse did some accurate measurements this time around.  She had him strip down to a diaper and sit on the baby scale.  And to measure his height, she had him lay down on the paper, just like they do for squiggly babies!  The doctor also mentioned that Michael was one of the easiest 2 year olds she’s ever did a full exam on.  He was such a good listener, and followed her instructions very well.  We play pretend doctor at home where we listen to his heartbeat, check his ears, eyes and mouth, and tap his knees…so maybe he thought she was playing with him too!  Last night, while we had a mock check-up, we had a little conversation:

Me: Michael, what do you get when you’re a good patient?

Michael: A band-aid!

Me: A band-aid? Oh for your shots. What else?

Michael: Stickers!

Me: What else?

Michael: A book. [Dr. Rawal always gives him a book at every visit.  He remembers!!]

After his fantastic exam, the doctor ordered a blood draw to check for lead and other tests.  We were more nervous than he was because the last time he had his blood drawn, it took several tries from several nurses for what seemed like hours.  Michael was so miserable.  This time, the technician found his vein in one shot.  Michael didn’t shed one tear.  All he wanted was a prize from the treasure chest!  He’s so brave.  I can’t believe he’s growing up so fast…
