Just Sand

We joined Emily and Nicole at a Mother’s kind of beach in Newport.  There are no waves, restrooms are close by, parking is right next to the beach and practically free.  Well, each quarter at the meters buys you 10 minutes!  We paid for the first 1.5 hours, but when Emily noticed that everyone’s meters were expired, we let ours expire too and had more fun in the sun.  Michael has developed some kind of fear for “big water” or the ocean, and decided to just play in the sand.  He had sand everywhere! – in his hair, eyes, ears, buttcrack.  Everytime he’s around sand, he thinks its fun to throw it in the air!

Kaitlin and Sophie did a great job playing with Michael.  They didn’t make a big deal about Michael throwing sand everywhere.

We brought this little contraption where you pour sand or water into the funnel, and it slowly funnels down into the wheel and makes it spin.

It kept the kids busy for a long time.

Ava, Adelyn, Sophie and Isabel were digging up a big hole.  Michael thought it was a manhole, and stood right in it.

And stayed in it… Poor girls.  Whatever they constructed or dug up, Michael destroyed or stood as an obstacle.

So the girls abandoned their hole, and Michael had it all to himself.  He’s either pretending to be a bridge or doing his favorite yoga pose – downward dog.  Either way, he was having a good time.

I can’t believe this was our first beach trip of the summer, and it’s already August!  We’ll have to squeeze in a few more visits before the weather turns on us.
